Elizabeth Taylor, one of the most precious gems of Hollywood had a vividly rich and fabulous collection of jewelry which is set up for auction in NYC. The collection is worth $150 million and boasts some exotic classics of history.
Like her acting, romances, friends and marriages, Taylor’s incredible jewelry collection is also world famous. She was very passionate about jewels and her love affair with jewelry was fed by her eight husbands.
This academy award winner received many valuable jewels from her husbands, especially Mike Todd and Richard Burton. Mike was her third spouse and he presented her a spectacular diamond and ruby necklace and an antique diamond tiara. A 29.4 carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring and shoulder dusting antique chandeliers in her vault were also gifted by Todd.

Another famous and antique bijou was a 33.19 carat Krupp diamond given by Richard Burton whom she married twice. Burton also showered many other historic pieces on Elizabeth. The 16th century Taj Mahal diamond necklace, the La Peregrina pearl which once belonged to Queen Mary of England, a 69.42 carat inch thick $1.1 million Taylor-Burton diamond and a diamond and sapphire necklace featuring a 321 carats Burmese sapphire pendant are few of the rare jewels that Burton gifted Taylor at different events.
According to Taylor, Richard was very romantic and always expressed his feelings with unique and exclusive jewels. Her favorite emerald and diamond necklace which was once a part of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna’s collection was also gifted by Burton.
The auction exhibiting Elizabeth’s jewelry and other memorabilia is starting today at Christie’s auction house in New York City. The jewels on sale include a diamond bracelet given by Michael Jackson and a 33.19 carat diamond by Richard Burton. Other sales of Taylor’s collection of art, clothing and memorabilia will be held later this week.
